The Dixon Homestead Journey Begins, Creating the Path to "At the Living Well."
A Little Piece of Country Life at At the Living Well For over 35 years, I lived in Marietta, Georgia — surrounded by busy roads, crowded neighborhoods, and city life that never truly felt like home to me. Deep down, my heart longed for something different. I wanted peace. I wanted room to breathe. I wanted a home where faith, family, creativity, and purpose could all grow together. More than eight years ago, my husband Brian and I began praying for that dream. Not just any ho

Creative Playtime
Life can get crazy busy around my house with running a freelance graphic design business, homeschooling, house chores, sports and the list continues. There is homeschool work that has to be completed, and there are times when either my child or myself will get frustrated. Maybe it is a subject he is struggling with and he is frustrated because he really wants to understand. Or a client calls and I need to take the call, which means homeschooling is paused for a moment. Well,

New to Homeschooling
New to “homeschooling”? Well, no worries! I am here to tell you from one parent to another, you got this! I have full confidence in you, and YOU GOT THIS! Like my daughter said, "homeschooling or "at home schooling" is not a cookie cutter thing, it's a wonderful, beautiful mess!" I am not going into my background of homeschooling on this actual post, I will type that one up later. For now let’s look at some of the basics that you might be struggling with. Mindset | First let

The Dixon's Journey to Homeschooling
As the 2020-2021 school year approaches, and there are still so many questions and uncertainty among the public and even private schools, I wanted to share with you our journey to homeschooling our youngest son. Looking back to the beginning of our youngest sons school journey, we started with a private K4 program, that used Abeka. One of the best PreK programs I have see, however they did not go any higher in education. We started the process for finding another private sch

Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce
There is just something comforting about a pot of apples slowly cooking on the stove. The smell of warm cinnamon filling the kitchen instantly makes a house feel like home. And if you’ve got apples sitting on the counter getting a little too soft, before the apples go bad… here is a quick and easy solution. This homemade applesauce recipe has quickly become a favorite around here — cozy, sweet, and full of that old-fashioned homemade goodness we all love. The best part? It on

Homemade Chicken Salad
Out of all the dishes I have made for my husband, he gets the most excited over my chicken salad. Wether I cook chicken just for the salad or use the leftover chicken from a meal, he can't wait to make his lunch or "snack." Baked, boiled, fried it doesn't matter how your chicken is cooked from the start, as long as its cooked done. I have made this same recipe using left over smoked turkey from thanksgiving, and let me tell you, it was just as delicious. What you will need: 2

Pineapple Garlic Barbecue Grilled Chicken
This recipe is a product of uncertainty. Not sure how to fix our chicken tonight, and tired of all the same options, we decided to go through the cabinets and refrigerator and throw something together. We found a can of pineapple in the cabinet, a jar of garlic and barbecue sauce in the refrigerator and of course the salt on the table. I have to say, this recipe turned out delicious and one that will be used a lot more often! Give it a try, I am pretty sure you will LOVE it!

Crispy Pork Egg Rolls with Creamy Ranch Dip
These pork egg rolls are one of our favorite ways to turn a big batch of Boston butt into something completely new and crave-worthy. Crispy on the outside, cheesy and savory on the inside—they’re simple to make and always a hit. We usually start by cooking a whole Boston butt ahead of time (either in the smoker or crockpot after searing all sides). Once it’s tender, we pull the meat apart and set aside 5 cups for this recipe. The rest gets saved for another meal—because aroun

Creative Quiet Time with God (and a Little Help from SketchBox)
Over the past week, I’ve made a small change to my nightly routine—and honestly, it’s been one of the most refreshing things I’ve done in a long time. Instead of ending my evenings scrolling through social media on my phone, I’ve chosen something different. Something quieter. Something more intentional. I’ve started spending creative quiet time with God before bed. Each night, I grab a simple sketchbook or drawing pad—nothing electronic, no screens—and a few art supplies. The

What’s in My Church Bag: Tools That Help Me Stay Rooted in the Word
The Bag That Holds It All The bag I carry is from Amazon, and honestly—it’s one of the cutest bags I’ve ever owned. But it’s not just cute… it’s incredibly practical too. It’s spacious and sturdy, with heavy-duty straps that make it easy to carry over your shoulder. There’s a zippered pocket on the outside for quick-access items, plus another zippered pocket inside to keep things secure. On the opposite side, there’s an open pocket that’s perfect for pens, highlighters, and s

🌿The Little Herb Garden That Keeps on Giving🌿
Last year marked my very first spring in our new home, and one of the things I was most excited about was starting an herb garden. I tucked it right beside our back porch—close enough to grab fresh herbs while cooking, but also in a space where I could enjoy the process of tending to it. I started simple, planting basil, oregano, parsley, sage, cilantro, dill, rosemary, and thyme. Just beside the main bed, I added mint in its own planter (because if you know, you know… mint l
